Methylene Blue Drop Math: How Many Drops Equal 1 mg, 3 mg, or 5 mg?
Educational information only, not medical advice. Methylene blue is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. See our health & legal disclaimer.
"A few drops" is not a dose. It is a guess.
Methylene blue is potent in small amounts. Two people who both take "a few drops" can differ by a factor of three. The fix takes ten seconds of arithmetic.
The one number to remember
VitaBlue delivers about 250 mcg per drop. The nano spray delivers about 250 mcg per spray. Everything else follows from that.
One milligram equals 1,000 micrograms. So one milligram is four drops.
The conversion table
- 1 mg: 4 drops or 4 sprays
- 2 mg: 8 drops or 8 sprays
- 3 mg: 12 drops or 12 sprays
- 4 mg: 16 drops or 16 sprays
- 5 mg: 20 drops or 20 sprays
Most people settle somewhere between 1 and 5 mg per day. That is 4 to 20 drops. Not 40. Not a dropper full.
Why counting beats eyeballing
A dropper is not a syringe. Hold it at a steep angle and you get a bigger drop. Squeeze fast and drops merge. Tilt it flat and they shrink.
Counting slows you down. That is the point. You see the number, you know the dose, you can repeat it tomorrow.
Keep your drops consistent
- Hold the bottle upright, dropper vertical.
- Squeeze slowly. One drop at a time.
- Count out loud or tap a finger for each drop.
- Use the same bottle angle every day.
- Write your count in a notes app for the first two weeks.
Where to start
Start low. Many people begin around 1 mg, which is four drops. Hold that for several days. Watch how you feel. Then change one variable at a time.
Do not jump from 1 mg to 5 mg because a forum post said so. Reports vary a lot between individuals, and more is not automatically better. Our titration guide walks through the low-and-slow approach step by step.
Common slip-ups
- Counting by feel. You will drift upward without noticing.
- Doubling up after a missed day. Skip it. Do not catch up.
- Mixing up concentrations. Different brands use different strengths. A drop from another bottle is not a VitaBlue drop. Check the label every time.
- Adding a new product the same week. Change one thing at a time so you know what is doing what.
Drops or spray?
The math is the same. The format is different. Drops are easy to dilute in water. The spray is compact, sealed, and easy to carry. If you travel or want a no-mess option, see drops vs nano spray for a full comparison.
Why the math only works with a clean source
Dose arithmetic assumes the bottle contains what the label says. That is why grade and testing matter. VitaBlue is USP pharmaceutical grade, made and third-party lab-tested in Europe, with no fillers. If you want to verify a batch yourself, learn how to read a certificate of analysis.
Safety first
Methylene blue must not be combined with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, or other serotonergic drugs. The interaction can be serious. It is also not for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and not for anyone with G6PD deficiency. If you take any medication or have a health condition, talk to a qualified healthcare professional before you start.
The short version
One drop is about 250 mcg. Four drops make 1 mg. Count every drop, start low, and change one thing at a time. Precision turns a guess into a routine.
